The plastic cover will collect it and you can use it somewhere in the building (I think it was needed to dissolve a safe). You have to put the plastic cover on the ground in that room first, then do whatever triggers the creature to spit acid.
Even some of the stuff I mentioned in this thread last year is pretty fuzzy to me now =Pĥ) I don't think you need to defeat the monster thing-I believe you're referring to the one that shoots some sort of acid.
