The photo, in the post before this one, of the bridge pickup cavity looks as though the wire route might not be a problem for a P90. The stock pickups frustrate me so much that I'd rather just play the Les Paul. In the meantime it just sits there looking pretty. 022 Paper-In-Oil tone cap and I have a TV Jones T-Armond P90 mount on order.

I switched out the stock mini-pots for full sized CTS pots from RS Guitarworks, a Russian. Definitely brings something to the table that is different to the Les Paul.

Unplugged I like the Pro Jet pretty well. Now I know it's a little unfair comparison of the stock pickups to the Lollars. I bought the Pro Jet for some type of contrast to my Gibson Les Paul Standard with Lollar Imperials.
I would describe mine as very low output, dull and lacking treble - which is quite a bit different description as Pearly Gator states his are bright and harsh.
I just obtained a Pro Jet a few weeks ago. I really think these mini-humbuckers must be very inconsistant from one pickup to the next. Nonetheless, I would still replace the pots to something full sized and (being a natural born tinkerer) would experiment with the NYII and/or NYIII pickups. I called Gretsch to find out the neck radius, but the rep didn't know much about the instrument besides what's on the Web site. Unfortunately, I have no idea if they are ceramic or alnico. I'm thinking they are 6.2k resistance, not 3.1k as I measured earlier since they sound quite full. The stock pickups are quite good and different from traditional humbuckers. The guy has owned this guitar since last summer and the finish has chipped off in all sorts of places.Īnyway, I experimented with the different pickups only because I had the guitar on the bench and wanted to see for myself what all the complaints were about.
